Sienna Named after the hillsides in Sienna, Italy where much of it has been quarried in the last few centuries, this truly beautiful marble has been used and imitated by artists and craftspeople in cathedrals and royal palaces throughout Europe.		Trompe L'Oeil This technique, (pronounced trump-loy), meaning "trick of the eye", is a method of painting shadows and highlights to make a flat surface appear three dimensional. This illusion of perspective is used in government buildings, fine paintings, theater props and movie sets.

Lapis Lazuli Literally "stone heaven", this relatively rare gemstone is a mineral of lazurite and contains purities. It's azure-blue to seep ultramarine blue is perfect wherever a regal touch is desired.		Norwegian Rose Often imitated by the skilled painter, this beautiful red and white marble is used in special areas. For example, it is an appropriate finish for counter tops, fireplaces, and wainscoting in both public and private spaces.

Metal Leafing
Gilding is an ancient decorative art that remains popular. Imitation and true metals are applied with sizing and a delicate gilder’s tip brush. It requires patience and practice, but is otherwise easy to do. Gilding can be an end in itself or serve as a background for paintings and mural work on decorative screens.

Nuvolotto
Nuvalatto,”milky clouds” in Italian, is a metamorphic marble formed over millions of years. Fortunately it can be painted in a few minutes. This highly veined, blue-grey marble sets the stage for the decorative painter in veining many other types of marbles.
